Should I Stay or Should I Go?: Keeping Older Healthcare Workers Engaged
There is a significant gap in the number of healthcare professionals in relation to the growing need for their expertise. Most baby boomers plan to work beyond the traditional retirement age and/or to seek post-retirement employment. Retaining healthcare workers age 50 and older, whose maturity and experience may be especially useful given the increasing demands and complexities of the field, is an important strategy in addressing the gap. Thus, it is necessary to understand the considerations of older healthcare workers when deciding whether or not to continue in the field, leave for another type of work, or exit the labor force altogether.
This webinar will feature results from a Cornell study of employment-related decision-making among older healthcare professionals, including health, financial vocational and psychosocial considerations that influence their decision to work. It will also include steps that individuals and employers can take to improve the work experiences and job tenure of workers in the healthcare field.
